Monthly Student Art Classes

The Fourth Saturday of Each Month

Every month, the Art & Soul Gallery hosts Student Art Classes in two sessions. The goal of these classes is to let young artists try new mediums and techniques. They are encouraged to get out of their comfort zone and try something they may or may not have experienced. This gives young artists the opportunity to find what types of mediums and techniques they may enjoy without commitment. These classes began in October of 2025. We encourage new artists to “try it before you buy it” allowing them to try the class the first time for FREE. If they enjoy it and would like to joins us again, it is $15 per student for supplies.

Morning Session takes place from 10:00am to 11:30am and is geared toward ages 5 to 9 years old. We often have a group project for the class to work on together as well as an individual project. Should a student fall in this age range and yet find the work too easy, they are welcome to try the afternoon session, but the techniques and mediums are much harder.

Afternoon Session is from 1:00pm to 3:00pm is intended for student artists from 10 to 17 years old. These artists receive more instruction from Miss Lori and practicing with whatever technique or medium they may be working with before moving on to work on their own piece. As with Morning Session, their finished work hangs in the Art & Soul so the community can see what was created.

When the student artists come in for their next session, their work is returned to them and replaced with new work. Should they not be able to attend, we request that the artist claim their work AFTER the current class is finished.

Classes For July 25, 2026

Morning Session 5-9 years old 10:00am to 11:30am

This month, Morning Session will be doing Scribble Drawings and creating a popsicle stick garden as a group project.

Afternoon Session 10-17 years old 1:00pm to 3:00pm

This Month, Afternoon Session will be learning about the Japanese art concept Notan Drawings that focuses on the harmony and balance between light and dark within a composition.

Meet Your Teacher

Lori Anne Dickerman

Lori is a multi-media artist who retired after 33 years at an engineering firm and is honing her passion and skills in art. She loves to experiment and try new things, media and styles. She got her degree in Commercial Art in 1996 while working as a Technical Illustrator for this firm. Her last 17 years however were in Computer Networking and IT work before retirement in 2018. She also volunteered at the elementary school in Canon City CO two years prior to retirement one day a week. She worked with the art teacher there.

She taught Art for home schooled kids after retirement for several years and taught the Summer Art Camp classes for the 11-17 year old students in Florence CO until she relocated to Owosso MI in 2023 to be closer to family. She has recently started teaching student art on the 4th Saturday of each month in St. Johns, MI.

She started a local Plein Air group in April of 2018 with another lady in preparation for Paint the Town in Florence CO because she had never Plein Air painted before. She won two patron awards in that show and sold one painting. Her Plein Air Colours group in Colorado is still thriving and has grown to over 20 members. Since moving to Owosso MI she has started another group of artists with a friend, called Art in the Bar-n. They meet once a week and encourage and help each other out on their art adventures and projects. Both groups are on Facebook.
