Featured CCAC Artist of the Month
July 2026
We are pleased to announce our Featured CCAC Artist for July 2026 is Susan Mahoney!
A long-time resident of St. Johns, I’ve enjoyed artistic pursuits most of my life. My earliest creative memories are of drawing on the chalkboard during second grade recess and sewing quilts for my baby dolls. As a teenager, I also enjoyed acrylic paints and soft pastels. As an adult, when the responsibilities of family and work required most of my attention, I still found time to express my creativity through quiltmaking. In 2015, I returned to painting when I took an introductory watercolor class, and I haven’t looked back since. Although most of my work is in watercolor, I enjoy ink drawing and exploring oil paint, gouache, pastels, and mixed media pieces. My art education is self-directed, and I’m continually developing my skills. During July, I plan to paint daily as part of my participation in World Watercolor Month.
In 2021, with the encouragement of art coach, Mary Ablao, I began teaching watercolor classes. Since then, I’ve enjoyed introducing many people to the medium and guiding returning students through beginner projects.

We invite you to join us at the Art & Soul Gallery for Susan’s reception on Thursday, July 30, 2026 from 5:00PM to 7:00PM. Come meet Susan, view her work on display at the gallery, participate in a Question and Answer Session about her work, inspiration, background, and discuss some of the stories behind her work. Refreshments will be served.
