Theatre Group Blends Entertainment with Renovation Goal By: Ron Huard [Click here to print article] Theatre Group Blends Entertainment with Renovation Goal Auditions for “Charlie Brown” Production Set for Jan. 20, 21 When St. Johns residents Beth Webb and Susan DeRosa commemorated the city’s 150th anniversary with their production of “A St. Johns Home Companion” in 2006, aside from a winning performance, they brought awareness to the need for auditorium improvement at Rodney B. Wilson Center. That need prompted the recent formation of Homegrown Productions, and their initial presentation of the acclaimed comedy “You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown.” “The auditorium is a treasure of the community,” commented DeRosa, “and merits not only improvement, but preservation. Beyond “Charlie” we hope to have an ongoing schedule of plays with proceeds from each dedicated toward modernizing the auditorium.” While moved by that interest, Homegrown Productions is centered on its current play, set for staging in March. Weekend performances will be Friday and Saturday March 13 and 14, and Friday, Saturday and Sunday March 20-22. In the meantime, a call is being issued for auditions which will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday January 20 and 21 at the Wilson Center. Persons interested in auditioning should be prepared to sing and to read from the script without advance review and are encouraged to bring sheet music (preferred) or karaoke-style CD. A piano accompanist with be available. According to DeRosa, the new production company is working in partnership with the Clinton County Arts Council, however, for details on the current play or general company information, contact either DeRosa, 517.651.2949 or Beth Webb 989.224.8982. The Clinton County Arts Council is supported not only by membership dues and general donations, but also through the support of the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs and the National Endowment for the Arts. |
