Quilting Class Series Opens New Year at Arts Council’s Gallery

A series of four quilting classes highlight the opening schedule of events for the new year at the Clinton County Arts Council Gallery. As in the past, instructor for each of the three-hour sessions will be Mary Warner-Stone. All classes will be held on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. February 7 and 21 then again on March 7 and 21. A fee of $45.00 covers all four sessions.

“Needle turn appliqué is easy and enjoyable,” Warner-Stone commented, “particularly with the appropriate tools and techniques.” She further explained that her method of teaching includes not only the tools, but the basic techniques and their applications.

Some of the tools needed include embroidery scissors, sharp to the tip, size 10 or 11 straw needles, sequin pin, silver or white quilters pencil along with a #2 pencil. Students should also consider bringing 100% cotton or silk thread to match the appliqué, 14-inch square fabric for background (light color is best) and a selection of fat quarters for appliqué designs.

Some other items that may be convenient, but not necessary for class, include Thimble-It®, June Tailor Quilter’s Cut ‘n Press board and Block carrying case. All of the above items mentioned will be available for purchase the day of class.

For additional information, persons interested in the series of classes may contact Mary Warner-Stone at 989.413.1771 or marywarnerstone@verizon.net.

The Clinton County Arts Council Gallery is located at 211 N. Clinton Ave., downtown St. Johns. This series of instructions, as are all activities of the council, is supported not only by membership dues and general donations, but also through the support of the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs. The latter is a partner agency of the National Endowment for the Arts.
