Area residents can show their support for the annual St. Johns Performance
Shell Concert in the Park series by purchasing 2008 patron buttons.
Donations help defray costs of the weekly, outdoor music series that begins
this Wednesday, June 18, and concludes Aug. 27.
"The sale of these buttons is so important to us each year," committee
chairperson Bill Tennant says about the summer series that costs over $5,000
annually. "Our patron support is critical in funding the concerts."
St. Johns High School and Denison University graduate, Mad Mohre, again
designed this yearıs button that depicts the Shell in vibrant green and blue
hues.
Patrons receive two buttons for each $50 donation; cost is tax deductible.
Buttons are available at the Clinton County Arts Council gallery in downtown
St. Johns, and at each of the Wednesday evening concerts.
Patrons who wear their button and visit the St. Johns Big Boy Restaurant on
any Wednesday during the summer receive a 10-percent discount on their
purchase.
"The Shell Committee hopes to see a lot of the 2008 buttons worn around town
on Wednesdays throughout the summer," Tennant says.
The Performance Shell was constructed several years ago and has been a
popular addition to the offerings at the city park. The weekly summer
concerts draw large crowds, and the shell is also used for events such as
outdoor weddings.
